History of Kings & Queens Medical University College (KQMUC)
The Kings and Queens Medical University College was Established on February 2016 after its Registration on 28th January 2013, by the Kings and Queens Medical International Group Ltd, Ghana.
The Concept of the Formation of the University College emanate from a Vision by Dr. Jerryson Ameworgbe Gidisu , Educationist, Medical Doctor and the Founder of Kings and Queens Medical International Group Ltd, Ghana.
In a Research and Feasibility Studies done by Dr. Jerryson Ameworgbe Gidisu brought to light the need for the First Private Medical University when his research into medical training disclosed that there are more than 5000 Ghanaian students studying undergraduate medicine in China, Cuba, Russia, Ukraine and other countries. On average, these students are paying $12,000 USD per year for their training, not including the additional but necessary costs of accommodation and meals.
This was as a result of the fact that, there was then only Four (4) Government owned Medical Schools in Ghana which admits about 600 students into Medical studies out of about 20000 Students applying to study Medicine Yearly. This represents about 5% of the Total Applications for Medical Studies Yearly.
Hence, Dr. Jerryson Ameworgbe Gidisu thought a Private Medical University was Necessary to directly address and reduce the Cost of Ghanaian students training Abroad. By providing a Private Medical College with state of the art equipment and modern infrastructure, the average medical school intake will rise yearly.
This vision by Dr. Jerryson Ameworgbe Gidisu was brought down on paper, analyzed by expertise and approved. The Kings & Queens Medical University College was duly registered with a number of relevant Departments of the Government of Ghana and the project received final approval by the Ghana Investment Promotion Center (GIPC). Funds were raised to commence the establishment of the Medical University College which would be Ghana’s Premier Private Medical University.
A site at Kpong on the Accra- Akosombo Road in the Manya-Krobo Municipality, which is about One (1) hour drive from the Kotoka International Airport, Ghana was acquired as the permanent location of the University college.
